Today I called the provost a heretic.

Filing this under “things I did not expect that I would do today.”

Wear white to support religious freedom. #wearevanderbilttoo

For those of you who don’t know (probably most of you), religious freedom is under attack at Vanderbilt University. They are telling us that the non-discrimination policies of student religious organizations need to include the right for non-members of the religion to run for leadership positions. It doesn’t sound all that bad, except Vandy Catholic certainly isn’t going to allow any of its board members to be anything but faithful, practicing Catholic. Period. (Same with several other religious organizations.)
Tonight there is a meeting at which this issue will be discussed. We are praying to have this ruling overturned, or to include a religious exception. It is ridiculous to propose that someone who is decidedly not a member of a religion should be allowed to lead and guide people in the practice of that religion.
