I attended a deaconate ordination Mass this morning! All five of the men are now temporary deacons and will be ordained priests for the Diocese of Nashville in July 2014.

You know what… I just realized… As of today, I have witnessed all seven of the Sacraments! Hah! Winning! :)

Me: I'm bringing my Señora a present from Tennessee. Guess what it is.
Ben: Jack Daniels. Most Tennessee thing I know.
Me: YOU ARE SO GOOD AT THIS

Tennessee only has one natural lake of significant size.

Reelfoot Lake. It’s actually more of a swamp/bayou and was formed after an earthquake in 1812.

The rest of TN’s big lakes are manmade. For example, I live really close to Old Hickory Lake, which exists because of a dam on the Cumberland River.

Now I understand why my TN friends can’t even fathom MN’s 11,000+ lakes. Hah.

Fun fact:

In my (current) hometown outside Nashville, Tennessee, there are several “slave walls.” They are these short little stone mounts pictured above. Slaves build them in order to designate property lines between the plantations.

Boom, history.
