Reelfoot Lake. It’s actually more of a swamp/bayou and was formed after an earthquake in 1812.
The rest of TN’s big lakes are manmade. For example, I live really close to Old Hickory Lake, which exists because of a dam on the Cumberland River.
Now I understand why my TN friends can’t even fathom MN’s 11,000+ lakes. Hah.
Fun fact:
In my (current) hometown outside Nashville, Tennessee, there are several “slave walls.” They are these short little stone mounts pictured above. Slaves build them in order to designate property lines between the plantations.
Boom, history.
Is anyone else going to the Greek Fest this weekend?
Its a great time to get fresh Greek food and try some Greek beers

THE MIGHTY HARPETH, part one
Today a group from Vandy Catholic hiked up a ridge between a part of the Harpeth River that nearly doubles back on itself.
Today the Diocese of Nashville turns 174 years old! Apparently at its founding, the bishop was the only priest in the entire diocese. My, how we’ve grown! :)
This past Tuesday, the Cathedral of the Incarnation (in Nashville) had its own birthday—97 years.
ALSO, today 15 young women made their first profession to the religious life. They belong to the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia. Earlier this week, several women from that community made their final vows!
It’s been a busy week at the Cathedral! It’s so beautiful that we have so much to celebrate. God bless the diocese of Nashville!
Westboro Baptist protesters have tires slashed, leave funeral site after 10 minutes
I dunno about tire slashing, but I am proud of Nashville for producing such a big counter protest. You can’t hate the love out of us!!
Also, it was 5 years ago today that my family moved to the volunteer state!
I love you, TN!
